Why did you become an LMT?
Honestly, it was a pretty random decision. After almost 10 years as an environmental educator and environmentalist, I moved to Portland to pursue a Masters degree in Hydrology. Within 6 months of being here, I decided I would rather make people feel better. I had received one massage thus far but it somehow called to me. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I absolutely love what I do and everyone leaves happy. I'm happy, my clients are happy, life is good!
Oil, lotion or other?
This is a question for the client, My massages are about the client's needs and that includes oils, lotions, or nothing at all. I usually use a light olive oil that easily absorbs into the skin and is hypoallergenic. Oils are also best for Swedish and hot stone massage, whereas lotions are great for myofascial and deep tissue work as they absorb faster than oils and allows more contact with muscle and tissues layers. If requested, I do not need to use oil or lotion.
Best thing about living in Portland?
Ohhh, "best" is difficult! I would have to say the people! I have met some of the most amazing people in this city. I've started riding my bike all over, I never thought I would live in a city and I've been here since 2008 and now I cannot imagine being anywhere else! I'm definitely a fan of keeping Portland Weird... I additionally love the fact that I can visit the snow, beach, and desert! I don't have to shovel out my car from the snow unless I choose to!
Cats, dogs or fish?
What, you haven't met Peanut yet, Peanut Prince Prancy Paws the cutest office pup this side of the Willamette? Well, it is fair to say we have an office mascot/manager, he has 4 legs and is an 10 lb mutt! Peanut came into my life in May 2012 and he has had a place at Portland Chiropractic ever since. Usually that is in my lap but he has a bed next to the massage table as well. He will greet you and then take a nap while you get body work. His job is to work like a dog. If you suffer from animal allergies or are sensitive to dogs, rest assure, the office is clean of dander and Peanut has a private location to stay for your comfort. He will not be present if you are uncomfortable. I also share a house hold with two cats, two ducks, a bearded dragon lizard and I lease a horse in WA.
